Patient SafetyIllinois hospitals are strongly committed to providing safe, quality patient care. Processes to safeguard and improve patient safety – both to advance the practice of medicine and to comply with government regulationshave been an integral part of hospital operations for many years. The 1999 Institute of Medicine report, To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System, focused attention on the critical issue of medical errors and patient safety. In the wake of that report, Illinois hospitals have focused on advancing a culture of patient safety. The resources provided in this section assist hospitals with their internal patient safety programs, as well as showcase their coordinated system-wide safety improvements that go beyond a single organization.
